FINAL DECLARATION

Deadlines shown for the 2026/27 tax year. TaxLiteMTD updates automatically when HMRC revises the schedule.

How it works

From sign-up to submitted, in four steps.

STEP 01

Connect to HMRC

Sign in once through HMRC's secure OAuth connection. Your Government Gateway password stays with HMRC — we never see it or store it.

STEP 02

Record as you go

Add income and expenses in seconds, photograph receipts on the spot, and let HMRC-aligned categories keep everything in order.

STEP 03

Submit each quarter

Review your figures and send each quarterly update to HMRC with a single confirmation. Reminders arrive well before every deadline.

STEP 04

Finalise the year

Confirm your annual figures and file the Final Declaration. That completes your obligation — no separate Self Assessment to fill in.

What's inside

Built for one job, done properly.

Not a general accounting suite with MTD bolted on — a focused tool for the people the new rules actually affect.

Income & expense ledger

Log every transaction in seconds against pre-set, HMRC-aligned categories that keep your records submission-ready.

Receipt capture

Photograph receipts and invoices the moment you get them, attached to the expense so nothing goes missing at year end.

Deadline reminders

Notifications fourteen days and three days before each quarterly deadline, so a submission never slips past you.

Direct HMRC submission

Quarterly updates and your Final Declaration go straight to HMRC through their official Making Tax Digital connection.

PDF statements

Export a clean, itemised summary of income, expenses and transactions whenever you need a record to keep or share.

One account, every device

With Premium, your records sync across iPhone, iPad and Android — enter once, see it everywhere, always current.

The case for it

Cheaper than an hour with an accountant.

For a sole trader or landlord with no VAT registration and no payroll, TaxLiteMTD covers the whole obligation on its own.

Questions

What people ask before switching.

01
What is Making Tax Digital for Income Tax?
MTD for ITSA is HMRC's replacement for the annual Self Assessment return. Instead of one return a year, you keep digital records and send HMRC four quarterly updates plus a Final Declaration. It begins in April 2026 for sole traders and landlords with qualifying income above £50,000.
02
Do I still need an accountant?
If you're a sole trader or landlord with no VAT registration and no employees, TaxLiteMTD covers the whole MTD obligation on its own. You may still want an accountant for more complex affairs, but for straightforward income the app is designed to be all you need.
03
Does this replace my Self Assessment?
Yes. Once you're in MTD for ITSA, the quarterly updates and Final Declaration take the place of the old SA100 return. You no longer file a separate annual Self Assessment for that income.
04
When do the rules apply to me?
From April 2026 for qualifying income over £50,000; from April 2027 for income over £30,000; and from April 2028 for income over £20,000 (proposed). The thresholds step down each year, so most sole traders and landlords will be brought in over time.
05
Is TaxLiteMTD recognised by HMRC?
TaxLiteMTD is in active development and going through HMRC's recognition process for MTD-compatible software. We'll update this page the moment that recognition is confirmed.
06
How is my data handled?
Your records are held on your device by default and are never removed without your say-so. The connection to HMRC uses their official OAuth flow, so your Government Gateway credentials are never stored by us. Premium adds encrypted cloud backup you control.

Get ahead of April 2026.

Set up your records now, and your first quarterly update will be ready to file the day the rules begin.
